Help us bring back the parade on July 4, 2015
History of the Parade
A new committee, with new leadership, is working hard to bring back Wakefield's July 4th parade. The new
Wakefield Independence Day Committee (WIDC) is aiming for a 2015 parade.

The parade has not been held since 2012.

The WIDC, organized in the fall of 1990, has planned and scheduled activities in celebration of Independence
Day as well as other historic events. Its purpose was to advance the knowledge of and build community spirit
in celebration of our nation’s heritage.

First organized by the town’s Chamber of Commerce in the 1920s, the parade was coordinated by a local
social club before the WIDC took responsibility in 1990.

The previous committee worked extremely hard and built this event into the largest July 4th parade in
Massachusetts, and second-largest in New England.

The WIDC is registered as a 501(c)(3) organization, and contributions made in support of the parade may be
considered charitable donations.
