Special Guests at the Parade!

With our 2017 parade theme of Olympian Pride it’s time to announce our very special guests. Joining us this year are:

-Travis Stevens: 2 time Olympian: 2012 and 2016 US Men’s Judo. Travis won a silver medal in Rio and trains in Wakefield under Jimmy Pedro.

-Jimmy Pedro: 2 time Olympian: 1996 and 2004 US Men’s Judo. Jimmy won a bronze medal medal in Atlanta and Athens. He also coached the US Olympic Judo team in 2012 and 2016.

-Mark Kumpel: A Wakefield native who played for the 1984 US Men’s Olympic team. Mark was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques and played in the NHL and AHL. He retired from the NHL after playing 288 games where he totaled 38 goals for 84 points.

-Cailin Currie: 2016 Paralympian US Women’s Swim Team. The 19 year old Danvers native, competed in four events in Rio — the 100-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter backstroke.

EMARC Special Olympians: 40 Special Olympians will join us who participate in games across the state. The Special Olympics is the largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities in the world: with more than 4.7 million athletes in 169 countries — and over a million volunteers.
